The Municipality of Hévíz operates the world famous spa and the related hospital offering medical services in Zala County, in Western Hungary, which is the 2nd most popular tourist destination after the capital. Lake Hévíz is the world’s largest biologically-active natural thermal lake, which is considered a national treasure by the Hungarian National Committee of Cultural Heritage Preservation Office and aims to meet the criteria set in the UNESCO’s World Heritage Convention. The medicinal lake of Hévíz not only provides the feeling of bathing, but also means the basis of traditional medical treatments and healing wellness treatments.
The Municipality coordinates the sustainable urban development of Hévíz. Since joining the EU Hévíz has participated in many EU-financed projects. Most of them were financed by ERDF targeting city rehabilitation, environmental infrastructure, energy efficiency, creating attractive urban environment and attractions for locals and visitors.
The Strategic Plan for Development in Hévíz 2014-2020 details all the development needs and objectives complemented with an action plan including concrete financial planning and measures to achieve the expected results. This plan definitely includes the development of international relations and strengthening the participation of the city in initiatives at European level.
